AI Relevance:
This case exemplifies how AI can remove barriers to digital participation for micro-SMEs by: I) automating structured data generation from unstructured sources; II) supporting multilingual interactions via NLP/LLM-based chatbots; III) enabling scalable AI adoption with minimal technical overhead; IV) improving time efficiency and market accessibility for non-technical users.
Summary:
Tripr, a Portuguese startup, addressed a widespread challenge in the tourism industry: small tour operators, often composed of one or two people, struggle to keep up with administrative, sales, and customer-facing tasks simultaneously. Recognizing this, Tripr developed an AI-driven platform that empowers these micro-enterprises by automating their digital presence and sales funnel. The core technology leverages web scraping and NLP models to extract and structure information from sources such as websites and social media. Once structured, this data feeds several key modules: marketing content generators, OTA integration tools, and customer service chatbots. The system supports full automation, from scraping to publishing offers, freeing up time for operators to focus on delivering high-quality experiences. Thanks to its structured support from the StairwAI program, Tripr defined a clear AI adoption roadmap and business model. A subscription model targets small tour operators, while OTAs benefit from automated onboarding of new providers through intelligent bots. The system enables OTAs to expand their offerings rapidly, while tour operators can save up to three days per week otherwise spent on digital promotion and customer response. With TRL 5 reached and implementation activities underway—guided by AI experts in NLP and large language models—Tripr has set the stage for a scalable, inclusive AI application that enhances both productivity and competitiveness in the travel sector.
