Summary:
Domina Srl, an Italian SME rooted in textile production and luxury fashion, aimed to innovate the costly and waste-intensive process of producing fabric samples for client previews. Through the StairwAI support program, Domina developed PATCH, a forward-looking AI solution designed to virtualize the sample creation process. The core objective was to allow customers to explore a rich variety of fabric colors and finishes online, reducing the need for multiple physical prototypes and thereby saving time, raw materials, and energy. The PATCH concept is based on an AI-powered rendering engine that generates high-fidelity images from a limited number of real fabric samples. Only a single neutral-colored physical sample per fabric type is maintained for tactile verification, while the rest of the aesthetic exploration happens digitally. The feasibility study addressed three key components: dataset creation via real sample imaging; AI model training for color and texture rendering; and the development of a web-based user interface for seamless customer interaction. Following the development of a solid feasibility plan and business model, Domina defined the next steps toward commercialization. These include the implementation of user interface mockups, further AI model refinement, and live piloting with end users.
