SOFT WEARABLE ASSISTIVE GARMENTS FOR HUMAN EMPOWERMENT

Industry Sector

Assistive Living . Workplace safety . Software Engineering

Project Timeline

November 1, 2023 – October 31, 2027

The EU-funded SWAG project aims to develop a new generation of soft wearable assistive garments that enhance human movement through lightweight, adaptive and intelligent exosuit technologies. By replacing rigid exoskeleton components with high-strength inflatable fabrics and sensing films, SWAG seeks to create comfortable, garment-like wearable robots that support the lower body and core while remaining safe, discreet and easy to use.
SWAG will combine soft actuation, embedded sensing, AI-based user-intent tracking and biomechanical modelling to deliver personalised assistance across a range of real-world applications. Its technologies will be demonstrated in four use cases: motion assistance, occupational support, wellness training, and immersive haptic feedback for virtual reality. Through these advances, SWAG aims to expand the role of soft wearable robotics in healthcare, industry, fitness and digital experiences.
