CLARUS – Optimizing Production and Logistic Resources in the Time-critical Bio Production Industries in Europe

Industry Sector

Manufacturing . Information and Communication Technologies . Transportation and Storage . Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities . Agriculture, forestry, fisheries

Project Timeline

September 1, 2022 – November 30, 2025

CLARUS is a Horizon Europe project that supports the green and digital transition of the food and bio-production sectors through Artificial Intelligence, data technologies and interoperable digital infrastructures. The project focuses on sustainability data, including energy and material consumption, water use, waste, emissions and logistics, to help companies assess, trace and optimise resource use in industrial food processes.
The project develops AI-based solutions to improve sustainability performance and operational efficiency in time-critical bio-production environments. Its main results are the CLARUS Green Deal Index, which measures alignment with European Green Deal objectives; the CLARUS Data Space, which enables secure and interoperable data sharing; and the CLARUS AI Toolkit, which provides AI models and datasets for production and logistics optimisation.
CLARUS validates its solutions through two industrial pilots: one in primary frozen food processing at Ardo Benimodo in Spain, focused on energy and material resource optimisation, and one in food by-product processing at Honkajoki in Finland, focused on resource efficiency, product quality and logistics optimisation.
